Hb. Ephedrae Ma Huang 3-6g Induces sweating, releases the exterior, disseminates and facilitates Lung Qi, calms wheezing, stops coughing, warms and disperses Cold pathogens, promotes urination and reduces edema.
Rz. Cimicifugae Sheng Ma 1.5-9g Releases the exterior, vents measles, clears Heat and relieves toxicity.
With Bai Zhi, for Yang Ming headaches.
Rx. Paeoniae Rubra Chi Shao 3-9g Invigorates the Blood, dispels Blood Stasis, relieves pain, clears Heat, cools the Blood and reduces swelling from sores and abscesses.
With Xiang Fu, for flank pain, abdominal pain, and dysmenorrhea due to Qi and Blood Stagnation.
(Rx. Paeoniae Alba) (Bai Shao) (3-9g) (May substitute for Chi Shao)
Rx. Angelicae Dahuricae Bai Zhi 1.5-6g Expels Wind, eliminates Dampness, unblocks the nasal passages, dispels Cold, alleviates pain, reduces swelling, eliminates toxins, expels pus, expels dampness, alleviates discharge and treats leukorrhea and diarrhea.
With Ge Gen, for Wind-Cold trapped at the level of the muscles and interstices.
With Chuan Xiong, for headaches.
Rz. Chuanxiong Chuan Xiong 3-6g Invigorates the Blood, promotes the movement of Qi, expels Wind and alleviates pain.
With Xiang Fu, for Qi Stagnation combined with Blood Stasis.
Rx. Glycyrrhizae Preparata Zhi Gan Cao 1.5-6g Moistens the Lungs, resolves Phlegm, stops cough, clears Heat, relieves Fire toxicity and moderates and harmonizes the harsh properties of other herbs.
Per. Citri Reticulatae Chen Pi 3-9g Regulates Qi, adjusts the Middle, relieves the diaphragm, descends Qi, dries Dampness and transforms Phlegm.
Fol. Perillae Zi Su Ye 3-9g Releases the exterior, disperses Cold, promotes the movement of Spleen and Stomach Qi. harmonizes the Middle Jiao, relieves intestinal gas, improves Lung function, expands the chest and relieves Cold induced wheezing.
With Xiang Fu, releases the Exterior in a patient with pre-existing Qi Stagnation with chills, fever, headache, anhidrosis, a stuffy chest, belching and flatulence.
With Ma Huang, releases the Exterior in a patient with severe Cold and pre-existing Qi Stagnation.
With Xiang Fu and Chen Pi, for Wind-Cold with Qi Stagnation and chest congestion.
Rz. Cyperi Xiang Fu 6-9g Spreads and regulates Liver Qi, regulates menstruation and alleviates pain.
With Zi Su Ye, for nasal congestion, epigastric and abdominal distention and discomfort associated with externally contracted disorders.
Rx. Puerariae Ge Gen 3-18g Discharges Exterior conditions, releases the muscles, especially of the neck and upper back, relieves Heat, generates fluids and vents and discharges measles.
With Sheng Ma, for early stage measles where the rash has not yet appeared.
Rz. Zingiberis Recens Sheng Jiang 2-6g Releases the exterior, induces perspiration, disperses Cold, warms the Lungs, stops cough, warms the Middle, stops vomiting and reduces the toxicity of other herbs.
With Chen Pi, for Cold-Dampness Obstructing the Middle with nausea and hiccup.
With Ma Huang, strongly creates sweating to treat all externally contracted Wind-Cold disorders, especially those in which Wind-Cold has constrained Lung Qi with cough and wheezing and the failure of Lung Qi to descend causing nausea and vomiting.
